Ever since I was a small child, I have been fascinated by Bigfoot also known as Sasquatch. I was probably 8 years old when I first saw the famous 1968 Bluff Creek, California footage of Bigfoot. The legend of Bigfoot has always enthralled me. As a kid, I gobbled up television shows such as In Search Of with Leonard Nimoy, Unsolved Mysteries, or anything with a mysterious or paranormal bent.
Of course, there are other mysteries that most of us are familiar with such as the Loch Ness Monster, Ogopogo of Okanagan Lake, the Yeti/Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas. You can be pretty sure that almost every corner of the world has unexplained legends. It makes for a more mystical and magical world.
Nowadays, Bigfoot is all over the internet, YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, late-night radio, podcasts, streaming services, and plenty of movies featuring Bigfoot. They are everywhere! As a kid, I recall that Bigfoot was most likely to be reported from the west coast from California to British Columbia. Nowadays, they are reported all over the United States and Canada, not just the northwest.
The big question, is the legend of the Sasquatch true?
If you check on YouTube, there are seriously hundreds of Bigfoot videos, but much like the Ivory-billed Woodpecker, the holy grail of birds, any footage of a Bigfoot is usually grainy, far away, or obstructed views of this fabled creature. This makes the sceptic, more skeptical and making it very difficult to prove that Sasquatch exists.
Sceptics would point out, no bodies discovered, no scat or hair that has a mysterious DNA. Other than eye sighting, poor video, sound recording and some big footprints, it’s hard to conjure up the proof that this creature truly exists.
CONCRETE EVIDENCE
But I want Bigfoot to exist. Wouldn’t it be great to find a race of undiscovered hominoids living among us, on the edge of human civilization undisturbed by our ever-crowding world. That’s why we need to look further than physical specimens and think more openly in terms of the paranormal where this ape-like creature can move between the human and spiritual worlds. That would be true magic.
In my belief system, I think the best chance to find a Sasquatch would be in the Pacific Northwest. Every time I’m out west, I am always on alert for Bigfoot. It would be one of the greatest discoveries on planet earth to prove their existence. Now with today’s phone cameras, you would think it would be possible to get a clear photo.
On our trips out west have been fortunate to stop at the Sasquatch Museum located in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia. This is one of the worlds Sasquatch hot spots, in fact, Sasquatch Provincial Park is just up the road.
The history of the Sasquatch/Bigfoot is found in this small museum, from the indigenous records to the more modern records of sightings of the elusive Bigfoot and the explorers and researchers that are investigating Bigfoot. Indigenous legends go back hundreds of years and stone carvings of purported Sasquatch have been found that are aged as old as 1500 BC.
Now on to an unbelievable moment that we experienced in the Great Bear Rainforest in the Bella Coola Valley. I have only mentioned this to a few people. But here is our story.
During a break from Grizzly Bear viewing in the Bella Coola Valley, we took a hike in one of the remaining old growth forests in the valley. The 500-to-1000-year-old massive Douglas Firs and giant Cedar’s towered over us. The walk through the woods is serene and a bit eerie at the same time.
The mammoth trees, the mosses, the fragrance of the forest is all inviting. It’s a humbling experience to walk through these woods and realize how ancient this forest is. Some of these trees were already 400-to-500 years old before the first settlers arrived in the new world. There is not much old growth forest left, but what is remaining needs to be protected.
The forest is quiet during our walk except for the sounds of our own voices, not a bird peeping anywhere, the ground is soft like a carpet as it is covered in the fallen leaves from the forest, so even our footprints are silent.
As we walked out into a clearing, there was a pretty beaver pond. The group wanted to take a picture from the top of the pond, so I waited by the pond as the rest of the group walked back into the forest to get a better angle of the pond. A few minutes later they came out and said to me, “did you hear that?” I said I did not hear anything. But they told me they heard this wild scream in the woods, and it frightened them. So, as we left the woods, I asked the group to say what they had heard.
This is their reaction.
Now I would not say that was definitive proof, but the whole thing was pretty weird.
After getting back to our accommodations, I started to review some of the pictures and videos from earlier from the day. I was shocked when looking at one of the videos and suddenly I saw a face in a tree. I took a still from the video so you could see what I was seeing. It’s pretty freaky. It looks like a Sasquatch face in the tree. Now I know there is explanations due to shadows and sunlight, but I still find it pretty wild to see this face in the tree. Maybe Sasquatch can move between worlds, but still keep an eye on us at the same time! Who knows?
Here’s the pic!
Is Sasquatch/Bigfoot real?
What do you think?
I know I’ll continue keeping an eye out while I’m in the woods of western Canada and maybe if we’re lucky, we can get a blurry picture of a Sasquatch one day!
Thanks for reading!
Great blog.
And may I say, never stop looking for the sasquatch - it's real, just elusive - I heard it.
And you never know what other amazing nature you'll encounter in the process!
